Yankee Season Yanked…

I could not muster up an appropriate baseball mate for some Yankee afternoon delight.

As I do with Giants home games when my daughter is in Los Angeles, I journeyed to Yankee Stadium on my own. Sporting events are religious experiences and I only share with a very select few. I have very strict requirements.

I wanted to see Derek Jeter one last time.

Yesterday started out as a glorious day, but as the score soured from 3-0 to 9-5, the skies above the stadium turned dark and threatening. The Yankees lost.

My Yankees are officially eliminated from the playoffs…a dubious farewell to the Captain, Derek Jeter.

Tonight is Jeter’s last home game ever and the forecast is for rain…fitting after a season highlighted by injuries and an obvious lack of hitting.

The Yankees end the season in Boston with little fanfare as both teams are not in contention. The Red Sox have gone from World Series winners ro cellar dwellers.

Jeter and the Yankees, the fat lady has sung. The 2014 season is over for and we bid a fond farewell to a great baseball player, a classy human being and the last member of the Core Four.

The captain went out a winner. He gracefully went down with the Yankee Clipper ship.

As with a high colonic, the season turned to sh.t and has been unceremoniously flushed away.

I salute you, Derek Jeter. Another chapter starts and the possibilities are endless. I wish I felt as optomistic about the 2015 Yankees.
