The Noortwyck, An Impressive New American NYC Restaurant

The Noortwyck.

The new kid on a bustling west village block…you will be happy to make its acquaintance.

Noortwyck is Dutch for ‘‘North District.” The restaurant sits on what was once the nothern tract of New Amsterdam.

The former location of the popular Loyal Restaurant, The Noortwyck is an attractive, welcoming place, helmed by the former Eleven Madison Park A-team comprised of Chef Andy Quinn and EMP sommelier and Wine Director, Cedric Nicaise.

Co-owner Cedric Nicaise is all about enhancing your dining experience while Chef Quinn has built the appealing menu around the seasonality of regional ingredients.

The 70-seat upscale neighborhood restaurant features an a la carte menu, delivering on its goal of deliciously impressive food and wine.

We ordered a crisp lovely Vermentino at a very reasonable $55 price point.

We started out with delectable Peeko Oysters with a cucumber mignonette ($25).

Next we indulged in an exceptional Scallop Crudo with Sungolds and Pistachio which was sweet and a great blend of flavors ($21).

The Burrata Salad with Peaches and Rye was creamy, fresh and perfection on a hot and humid summer eve ($18).

Anna, our lovely server, suggested that we order the homemade Seeded Parker House Bread with  lucious butter. It was a wise decision ($12).

The Bucatini with English Peas and white pepper was served al dente and was a tantalizing blend of fresh ingredients ($27).

Open less than a month, the Bucatini previously was served with fresh ramps indicating how committed chef is to produce that is currently in season.

The Hangar Steak smoked with spring onion and a fabulous Tamarind sauce was tender and flavorful ($41).

Located on the corner of Bleecker and 7th Avenue in the West Village I would wager that between the high quality food, a fun as well as impressive wine list, The Noortwyck will be a hard to get reservation.

The good news is that in addition to the comfortable bar, the restaurant also reserves tables by the open air front windows for walk-ins.

In a time when many new restaurants are uninspired, The Noortwyck shines.

The Noortwyck 289 Bleecker Street West Village New York City. Open Tuesday-Saturday 5-10:30pm. Reservations on the website and Resy, available 2 weeks in advance.
