The Lonely Few in Lalaland…

Dipped my toe into the Los Angeles theater scene this weekend.

After enjoying an enervating walk on an empty Santa Monica beach we dashed off to Westwood.

There are not as many original plays in LA these days. The offerings are predominantly touring companies of the popular Broadway hits.

I had read about A Lonely Few at the UCLA owned Geffen Playhouse in Westwood.

I was particularly drawn to the show because it stars Lauren Patten, an amazing vocal talent and an outstanding actor.

Her performance of You Oughta Know in the Broadway show, Jagged Little Pill, literally brought the house down and incited a frenzy of emotions as the audience jumped to their feet night after night.

She won the Tony, Grammy and Drama Desk Award for her acclaimed performance as Jo.

This was an opportunity to see her up close in the world premiere of a new musical.

I loved the dive bar setting. We were lucky enough to nab the couch seats. The intimate setting lent itself beautifully to the play.

The fact that the story and music need help before venturing to Broadway is not my focus. I think Lauren Patten could sell anything she appears in.

A woman we met at the musical mentioned if casting agents were on the lookout for Timothée Chalamet’s sister, Lauren is it.

Another benefit to being early to the party besides good parking is we sat outside in the attractive theater patio area and met two dynamic, creative women who have a production company and knew our daughter…6 degrees of separation.

It was a lovely diversion for a sunny Saturday in LaLaLand.
