New restaurant alert in Los Angeles. From the team behind Eveleigh, comes a new West Hollywood establishment called, Goldie’s. Eveleigh is worth trying and is a great brunch destination with a magnificent outdoor deck. On a clear day you can see the ocean. Additionally, they have another winner with Goldie’s, featuring modern California cuisine. We dined there recently and sat inside, but they do have a lovely outdoor patio, as well. Goldie’s has a trendy, neighborhood vibe.
We began the culinary journey with the unsexy turnips which turned out to be a turn on, charred to perfection with a sweet and tangy sauce. The roasted carrots with buttermilk ranch sauce were so sweet they could have qualified as dessert. The steamed Pei mussels with leek and fried potatoes were outstanding even though they were small in size, the mussels delivered a big flavor. The crunch of the potatoes was the perfect textural compliment to the creaminess of the sauce. The Boulder Valley hangar steak melted in your mouth, but the charred baby corn was the highlight.
Goldie’s is very serious about their mixology and take great pride in their drinks. When one of my dining companions asked for vodka instead of smoked tequila in one of their cocktails, the mixologist could barely conceal a shudder.
A New Yorker was seated next to us. Before ordering the mussels we were compelled to ask her if they were a good choice. Thus engaged, she commented on Courtny’s shoes. She was amazed that they were from Zara as she definitely appeared to be a designer consuming babe.
We chatted and upon departing she felt the need to share her lifelong philosophy as she perceived Courtny as young and malleable and worthy of her advise…(Inject a very NY accent), “Honey, save your money and don’t get fat” and fade to black. Check, please!
Goldie’s is open daily. located at 8422 West 3rd Street West Hollywood, CA. Valet parking is only $4.00…such a deal!
Instead of a recipe. I am going to dish on kale. Kale is the new arugula/sunchoke/beet…hot, hot, hot! The dark, leafy green has taken the food world by storm, especially considering its highly touted health benefits. You can prepare it a multitude of ways, but I like it raw. Kale stats are impressive: 33 calories per cup, rich in calcium, Vitamin A, C and K, potassium, iron and high in fiber.
I thought I would toss out a smattering of restaurants that offer superb kale salads. Remember, drop kale into your social interactions… is as “in” and trendy as shorts, booties, Celine bags, cobalt blue and flowered pants.

Hi Toby –
Is this too much “above the line”? Anyway, I tend not to be a public poster but I wanted to let you know we have been avid kale eaters for a very long time. In fact, when my daughter was in preschool (14 years ago), she was the only kid who could shimmy up the fire pole and ring the bell. Her friend kept trying and trying and then my daughter told her the secret -if she ate kale she could be able to do it! Of course, she immediately when home and demanded (& ate!) some kale.
Anyway, my favorite kale salads are at veggie grill – the All Hale Kale and the Caesar Kale salad. Not as fancy as the restaurants you frequent, but fast, cheap. & delicious.
Hope you are well. Things on the cape and Vineyard are just breezy.
Thanks for the fun posts. I love reading them! Karen
