Yours Truly should be renamed All The Best.
What a charming new dining establishment.
Located on busy, trendy Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice, California it is the former site of Salt Air.
The redo of the intimate 85-seat space is warm and welcoming with bright touches of orange.
We were graciously greeted and quickly led to a lovely window seat.
There is also an inviting bar at which you can graze.
Our server, Kaitlynn was fabulous and her recommendations spot on.
She suggested a lovely Petit Syrah which was smooth and fruit forward ($15).
The compact menu offered numerous temptations.
We started with the Avocado Hummus accompanied by a warm and delicious za’atar flatbread. The hummus was delicious accented with garlic, tahini and white soy and had a little kick provided by roasted poblanos and a touch of jalapeño. The hummus is topped with a peanut-laden salsa macha ($16).
The Kampachi was outrageous, the sushi sweet with rhubarb, watermelon radish, verjus, lime, green tea, basil and mint ($18).
The deliciously delicate Zucchini Blossoms were tempura battered and served hot and flaky ($15).
The Fingerling Potatoes were prepared cacio y pepe style presented with a fresh, bright egg yolk in the middle of the plate. We were instructed to beat the egg and spread the wealth. The grated pecorino and parmesan heightened the flavor ($14).
The only disappointment was the Swordfish which was the fish of the day. It was a nice cut adorned with fennel and an appetizing couscous. The swordfish was very flavorful, but I had asked for it medium and it was overly moist. We sent it back, but it was returned in the same state. ($28).
Kaitlynn came by and inquired how it was and I was honest and told her not as a complaint just a matter of fact. She insisted on taking it off the bill.
That’s service!
Chef Vartan Abgaryan, the former 71 Above fine dining chef, debuted Yours Truly in mid-March.
It was a delectable meal in a relaxed, comfortable space.
