No Pizza Pie In The Sky…

Pizza in Los Angeles.

Anyone who is a connoisseur of New York City pizza pie isn’t looking to feast on a slice in California.

It is never very good.

That situation just improved with the opening of Pizzana in Brentwood.

Word on the street is very complimentary, but I needed to sample for myself.

Recently, we indulged.

PIzzana

Pizzana is small with a cozy outdoor patio and a counter facing the kitchen.

Pizzana Patio

The staff is welcoming and our server, Matt, was a dream.

Artichoke

A must is the Carciofi Arrostiti, charred artichoke heart, fried baby artichoke, toasted pine nut, parmigiano, lemon and olive oil. This dish is divine ($16).

Chop Salad

We also selected the Chop Salad with kale, butter lettuce, frisee, cucumber, chickpea, avocado, goeta black olive, soppressata, provolone with a spicy calabrian chile and red wine vinaigrette. I opted for a less tangy, delicious lemon dressing ($16).

Funghi Pizza

The Funghi Pizza with Italian creme, fontina, shiitake and oyster mushrooms and caramelized onion was fabulous…light as air, delectably charred thin-crust with a white base ($19).

Neo Margarita Pizza

Originally, we order the signature Neo-Margarita Pizza with San Marzano tomatoes, fior di latte, basil crumb, parmigiano and basil, but it was not love at first bite ($18).

Matt was very solicitous and swept away the pizza and was anxious to accommodate us.

In step with the times, Pizzana has adapted to today’s eating demands.

Gluten free crust is available for an additional $6 charge.

Pizzana uses organic stone ground Italian flour and San Marzano tomatoes that are grown exclusively for Pizzana in the Naples countryside.

Salads are inspired by available seasonal California produce.

The mozzarella Fior Di Latte is shipped fresh from Italy several times a week.

Pizzana is the brainchild of Candace and Charles Nelson, the Sprinkles Cupcakes founders.

Actor Chris O’Donnell is an investor.

Daniele Uditi, the Naples-born chef, is tossing a 48-hour fermented dough.

Pizzana is the closest thing to NY pizza…I must confess, it is the real thing.

Pizzana 11712 San Vincente Blvd Los Angeles, California. Open Sunday-Wednesday 11am-10pm, Thursday through Saturday 11am-11pm. Reservations on RESY. Valet and street parking.
