Don’t Rain On the Parade…

Parade of the pathetic.

Who knew that attending a Broadway show could be as chaotic as a trump press conference.

Ever since Agent Orange’s reign of terror the world has become fraught with tension. I still wake up with a queszy feeling and it’s not from the Fritos I snuck last night.

Along with the wackadoodles I witnessed at Bad Cinderella Tuesday night, an even more upsetting episode was unfolding across the street at the premiere of the play, Parade, a musical about the true story of the false conviction and murder of a Jewish man named Leo Frank in 1915.

I did not understand the shouting and police presence.

It turns out that members of a far-right, Neo-Nazi movement protested outside of the Jacobs Theatre.

The individuals carried signs with hateful hand-written slogans, attempting to intimidate theatre-goers and trying to give out antisemitic flyers to those in line to see the show.

The event fully masked cowards did not even take the time to unearth the true story as the musical is an indictment against hatred.

Parade dramatizes the life and tragic death of Leo Frank, who was a Jewish factory manager living in Georgia in the early 20th century. He was falsely convicted of murdering 13-year-old factory worker Mary Phagan. He was sentenced to life in prison.

Frank was subsequently lynched by an angry white mob. After Frank’s death, it was revealed that Mary Phagan was murdered by Jim Conley, another factory worker.

Frank has since been exonerated.

The far-right white supremacist group, known as The National Socialist movement, protested the show on the basis of denouncing Frank’s innocence.

Their flyers also described their opposition to the Anti-Defamation League, a non-profit civil rights law group that assists victims of antisemitic allegations. The League was founded over a century ago in response to Frank’s murder.

I never knew that the ADL was founded in direct correlation to Frank’s indictment.

Selfishly, I am so done with all the unfounded hatred, racism and antisemitism.

I marvel at the conviction and fortitude of religious people who wear yarmulkes in public during these turbulent times.

Please, don’t rain on all the good people’s parade. It takes so much energy these days to be happy and optimistic.

Do a deep dive into the truth before spewing hate speech.

Enjoy the weekend.

  1. Amen!!!

  2. These hate mongers make me even more anxious to see Parade and its remarkable star, Ben Platt.
