King has now ascended the throne in SoHo.
The reigning Queens, chefs Clare de Boer and Jess Shadbolt, who worked at the legendary River Cafe in London, had dreamed about one day opening a restaurant together.
The inauguration happened about two months ago.
Teaming up with the duo is general manager, Annie Shi, who worked at London’s Clove Club.
The intimate restaurant with a daily-changing menu is influenced by the south of France and Northern Italy.
I felt a bit like a senior citizen dining at 6:30pm.
Reservations were difficult to come by.
It was a Thursday night and David had a lot of work so I coerced him into taking a break and eating early.
Surprisingly, King was packed with millennials.
Our server, Scott, was fabulous. He had a great vibe and was well informed.
The menu is short and sweet.
We started with a simple Green Salad. The mustard dressing enhanced the greens ($9).
David chose the delectable, perfectly prepared Chargrilled Halibut with Honey-nut squash, Treviso, anchovy and rosemary ($38).
I ordered the plentiful and delicious Chargrilled Onglet (hangar steak) with Salsa Etruscan, spinach and dandelion ($32).
Also on the menu, Veal Chop roasted with lemon peel, coco blanc and artichokes ($36).
We selected a fabulous Celeriac and chestnuts side ($10).
We were tempted with dessert and David jumped on the Medjool Date and Custard Tart which was enchanting ($9).
King offers appetizing seasonal, simple food…a royal treat and a wonderful destination as well as a welcome neighborhood dining spot.
Long live the King.
