Today is a milestone day.
40 years with the same mate.
Sure there has been turbulence, but it always clears up.
Take for instance today. Our flight was unceremoniously canceled yesterday so here we shall sit in middle seats in separate rows on a packed flight with most assuredly turbulence, missing our anniversary celebration in NYC and yet we are still together?.
Now back to wedded bliss…I am often asked what is the recipe for a successful, enduring marriage.
Marry your best friend.
Share common interests and values.
Respect, love, forgiveness.
Remember you marry an entire family?
I am a sports freak. My American born husband grew up in South Africa so football and baseball were an anomaly. My father asked me if I could see a successful relationship with a man who did not share my passion for the NY Giants and NY Yankees. Challenging issue, but after 40 years he is coming around.
He lets me do me and it has worked out.
Despite sports we share all the same interests. He is as passionate about cars, especially vintage, as I am about the NY Giants. I can now tell the difference between a Bentley and Ford Focus?
Our family is rounded out by an exceptional daughter…my mantra, “Do it once, do it right!”
I would not want to be on Love Island with anyone else. The ratings for our personal reality show continue to soar.
In fact, I still get butterflies when he walks into a room.
Can you hear me now shouting across the airplane aisle…Happy 40th wedding anniversary to my best friend, partner in crime, confidante and incredible husband?!?
