I am a frequent flyer. Along with the joy of visiting amazing places and living in various time zones I must deal with my fear.
Turbulence and airport insanity are two issues that can lead to sleepless nights.
I am supposed to fly tomorrow and an alleged first big snow storm of the year is to arrive in New York.
During the middle of the night the airlines sent me an email happily announcing impending cancellations.
Would I want to change my departure?
After waking up my flying buddy we decided to change the day.
Of course there was no change fee until you do it yourself on the app and they joyously indicate a $300 additional fee.
Next steps are calling said airline and hangin’ on the telephone for the time it took me to strip the bed and wash the sheets.
Confirmation comes through for the wrong day and we start the dance all over again.
I cannot tell the representative that he is an idiot so I calmly state he has made an error and we press rewind.
The other consideration was our original flight was at 6am and we had to drop our rental car off at Avis at 4am which presented problems since the office is not open until later.
Unfortunately, the Avis bus has a reputation of not always showing at the scheduled 10 minute intervals…more like every 45 minutes and who doesn’t look forward to waiting in the dark in the middle of the night at an isolated car rental lot.
So it’s 6:30am and I have already experienced one of the great joys in life.
Have a wonderful, allegedly snowy weekend if you live on the east coast.
