Pre-theater dining is always a struggle.
I recently read about a French bistro that had been reincarnated.
I had tickets for a new Broadway show so I booked an early dinner at Le Tout Va Bien.
All the elements are there to make it a great place for a classic French dining experience.
We were warmly greeted.
We started our meal with beyond delicious Escargots.
We had selected the pre-theater $45 fixed price three course menu.
The cast iron serving dish with 1/2 dozen escargots was steaming hot and each crevice was filled with garlic, butter and delectable escargot (1/2 dozen a la carte $14).
A freshly baked and sliced crunchy baguette was served with the escargot…exactly what is needed for sopping up the buttery goodness.
I selected the tender, perfectly prepared Coq Au Vin, braised chicken in red wine sauce with fabulous carrots, mushrooms, pearl onions and potatoes (a la carte $28).
My husband chose the well prepared Grilled Salmon with delicious Ratatouille ($30).
I opted for the creamy Creme Brûlée with a satisfyingly crunchy carmelized sugar layer. The other dessert was an Apple Tart with vanilla ice cream.
Tout Va Bien, one of the oldest French restaurants in New York City, recently reopened its doors.
Originally established in 1948, Tout Va Bien has been a cornerstone of French cuisine in the theater district.
It closed in the summer of 2020 during the pandemic.
Chef/owner Vincent Caro leads the revival.
We loved Tout Va Bien. It is charming and the food is delightfully, deliciously wonderful.
It is a great choice for a time-honored French meal, especially pre or post theater.
Le Tout Va Bien 311 West 51st Street New York City. Open Monday-Friday 4-12am, Saturday 11am-11pm, Sunday 11am-10pm.Reservations on OpenTable.com.
