Just like the Republican Party my television viewing has been a vast, cold, unfeeling, empty wasteland.
And then, the on trend, clairvoyant angel of television, my TV agent daughter, rescued me from the broadcasting doldrums.
She introduced me to Somebody Somewhere, a quiet, unassuming series that debuted last year and just returned with a magical second season.
Somebody Somewhere on HBO MAX now just known as MAX (so what who cares) returns largely unaltered.
Its unhurried charm is a welcome antidote to life’s stresses.
Thankfully, the show has just been renewed for a third season.
The good news is that there is an appetite for shows without violence, scheming, hysterical housewives, futuristic themes and political agendas.
The heartwarming relationship between Joel (Jeff Hiller) and Sam (Bridget Everett) is everything.
Bridget Everett, known for her bawdy cabaret act and numerous acting roles, is amazing in this real and raw role and who knew she could sing the hell out of a song.
The modest series is about a directionless middle aged woman who moves back to her hometown and attempts to somewhat unsuccessfully rebuild her family relationships while accidentally piecing together an oddball family of friends in Manhattan, Kansas.
Bingeing Somebody Somewhere is as deliciously satisfying as eating an entire guilt free New York pizza accompanied by a lovely adult beverage.
