Salty Lunch Lady Sweetens Lunchtime…NYC Restaurant Review

Salty Lady’s who lunch.

In Ridgewood…who knew.

Salty Lunch Lady’s Little Luncheonette is owned and operated by the dynamic Dria (short for Alexandria) Atencio who is a pu pu platter of all the elements you loved about your cafeteria lunch lady.

There exists a true warmth about her and it is amplified in her cozy, hip Luncheonette.

We met this fabulous woman at the amazing new restaurant, Cactus Wren.

Dria has cooked professionally for 15 years, a recognized Michelin Star establishment among the many restaurants she has worked in.

She owns Salty Lunch Lady’s Little Luncheonette and we decided we had to seek it out.

Last Sunday we were heading back from Long Island and I threw Salty Lunch Lady into Waze. It was only 20 minutes from our location on a clogged artery on the outskirts of Manhattan.

We drove through neighborhoods that reminded me of the opening gambit of, All In The Family.

We found parking that was free and a mere two blocks from the sandwich place…what the hell! That’s exciting.

Salty Lunch Lady is adorable…a throwback to simpler days with satisfying food that warms the tummy.

The eclectic furnishings feature tables from a bygone Lower East Side restaurant, chairs from a lady in the middle of Pennsylvania, along with vintage inspired hanging lamps.

All sane people recognize that living in a dictatorship the mere chance to do a deep dive into comfort food can help to soothe the anxiety.

I found the Divine Ms D. in the kitchen working hard at creating creatively enticing sandwiches.

She guided us through the chalkboard menu and we chose two outstanding sandwiches.

BTW, the breads are phenomenal.

The Classic Tuna Melt with a twist…gooey goodness. It is a Classic with sharp cheese, chopped pickles and dijon on crunchy, buttery sourdough ($17).

The Chicky is uniquely tasty with charred onion, Bulgarian feta, arugula, smoked paprika and mayo mixed into to a single huge herb-seasoned meatball which has been flattened to fit between an outrageously crusty sesame-seeded bun.

I was disappointed that all the baked goods had been consumed on a busy weekend. I had been drooling over the cake photos on Salty Lunch Lady’s Instagram account.

Dria treated us to a cookie filled with dark rich chocolate between two crunchy, delectable wafers.

I love the vibe and only wish my ‘hood had a sandwich hook up like Salty Lunch Lady’s Little Luncheonette.

Get your sandwich deprived self out to Ridgewood and indulge in an admirable array of delightfully delicious sandwiches and purportedly excellent desserts.
