After a croissant and double espresso we were off on another Parisian adventure.
Up and out and headed to Musee Picasso to see the Jackson Pollack/Picasso exhibit.
Live and learn. I had no idea that Pollock was so heavily influence by Picasso, emulating his style until the 1950s when he became the drip master.
Take a tour of Jackson Pollock’s early works:
On to the works by Picasso:
Enthralled and enlightened we headed out to the stunning Place de Vosges.
We then wandered through the photogenic, extremely overpriced Merci store.
Next was a highly anticipated dining experience at Marché Couvert des Enfants Rouges, the oldest food market in Paris established in 1615.
The line for Les Enfants du Marche, an outstanding seafood and natural wine restaurant in the market, is always long. The owner took pity on the sad American and we were seated immediately.
The outdoor dining experience was stellar. Review to come, but hands down the best cheese platter ever!
We continued the wiggle waggle and I fell upon the highly touted Homer Lobster stand.
I was stuffed, but they gave me a taste. Incredible!
Departing the Marais and on the way to the Jardin des Plantes I had to take in the view from the top of the Centre Pompidou…always breathtaking.
Onward to the Jardin des Plantes, another 35 minute walk.
We persevered, stopping for another look at the nearly completed Notre Dame which reopens the beginning of December.
The Jardin des Plantes:
I did not expect to see such magical grounds. Jardin des Plantes is not just a garden. It is also where you’ll find Paris’ oldest zoo, an historic botanical school and the Natural History Museum (Musée National d’Histoire Naturelle). The outdoor area is always free admission.
Dinner at Kapara was amazing. We walked both ways from Ile Saint-Louis to the newly opened restaurant close to Place Vendome.
The Louvre, Tuileries and the sparking Eiffel at night spurred us on.
We ended the day clocking 26,000 steps equivalent to over 8 miles.
Bed at midnight and up at 6am for the train to Strasbourg.
