Conscious Uncoupling…

Why are we so invested in celebrities lives?

Perhaps, if we focused on our own, we would all have better marriages, be more successful at our jobs. We should  take the energy we put in chasing other people’s success, dreams and adventures and channel into our own lives.

Case in point, the conscious uncoupling of Gwyneth Paltrow and rocker Chris Martin. In layman’s unaffected terms, they separated. The announcement was made on Paltrow’s website, GOOP…the site crashed due to heavy traffic. I wonder if my husband and I uncoupled, how many unique visits ifthedevilhadmenopause.com would get?!

Point of information…the phrase is used by New Age psychotherapist and author Katherine Woodward Thomas of Los Angeles. Thomas’ website offers a five-week online course in “Conscious Uncoupling” that promises to “release the trauma of a breakup, reclaim your power & reinvent your life” for $297….discussing my uncoupling online? I would go consciously crazy. At that price I would rather have a new pair of shoes and just walk away gracefully from the situation. That is consciously uncomplicated.

Ms. Thomas, I have a marketing idea for you. Forget conscious uncoupling for discontent couples and sell the phrase to Celestial Seasonings…that beverage I would consciously indulge in.

Being a publicist to famous people, you would think I would comprehend why people are so obsessed with celebrity. I guess many people have a desire to be famous and rich…the monetary reward is way more appealing to me than being famous. Many equate happiness with fame…wrong. I know a lot of famous, rich personalities who are bitchy, self-involved, miserable assholes…nothing to aspire to.

I feel as if I am playing Jeopardy today. Another question. Why are people so fascinated with the Kardashians?  I assume it is the train wreck theory, but how many times can viewers pause by a crash site and watch the bleeding. Doesn’t it get boring and repetitive? Why they have so many devoted fans? What do they contribute to life? Are they charitable? Smart? Practical? Do their values enhance society?

They may be fashion forward, but they wear the absolute wrong clothes for their body type. They are unbelievably materialistic. Kudos, I guess, to the Kardashian queen bee who took a family of uninteresting, undereducated peeps and made them all multimillionaires.

Seriously, soon to be thrice married, sex tape star, Kim, is a role model? No wonder our world domination has deteriorated. I must admit, I detest the Vogue cover, but it is nice to see a big busted, average size woman on the cover. We know Kim eats as she is always photographed in restaurants or with her mouth full…who knows what’s in it.

Having viewed celebrity from the inside, it just isn’t that exciting.
