I have become a salad head.
It’s my new addiction.
I am a streaky person.
Apparently, it started in first grade. For one year I ate a Welch’s grape jelly sandwich with cream cheese on white bread with the crust cut off.
Second grade was Tuna on rye.
Third was Chopped Liver on rye.
Honestly, I would never eat any of those food items now except for a good slice of rye from Russ & Daughters in NYC, Fromin’s in Santa Monica or TooJay’s in Boynton Beach, Florida.
Yesterday, I prepared 2 salads for lunch. I was curious as to time spent.
Between selection process from the refrigerator, rinsing, chopping, dicing, arranging, homemade salad dressing making (bottled dressing is the worst), cleaning up and definitely not including consumption it was almost 50 minutes and I am no Lazy Susan in the kitchen.
I can modestly attest that it was worth all the time and effort. Store bought salads are too spiced up for me, the chicken is questionable, steamed veggies are overcooked and the ends of the romaine lettuce are included for $15-22.
Healthy and homemade does cost you time and effort.
It is an investment, but worth it, albeit exhausting?
