Yesterday, my daughter and I had designing minds.
We headed to the premium outlets located just outside of Palm Springs.
Desert Hills Premium Outlets is home to the largest collection of luxury outlets in California.
The outdoor shopping center features 180 designer stores including: Alexander McQueen, Saint Laurent Paris, Jimmy Choo, Prada, Fendi, Gucci, Balenciaga, Burberry, Belstaff, Bottega Veneta, Tods, Rag & Bone, Dolce & Gabbana, AllSaints, Versace, Moncler, DVF, Valentino…a dedicated shoppers wet dream.
These are names I aim to develop close personal relationships.
The trip took less than two hours.
When we left the Palisades it was 70 degrees.
Palm Springs was a balmy 107.
Alrighty, let me paint a picture of the outlet stores ambiance.
Disclaimer: Please don’t think of me as a trump racist.
I am just delivering the facts.
We were two of the very few Caucasian shoppers at the outlets.
Asian customers from all over the world have migrated to Cabazon.
Tour buses monopolized the parking lot.
Hundreds of Asian patrons swarmed the center, pushing large suitcases.
We discovered that the Desert Hills Premium Outlets are a highly desirable Chinese consumer destination.
Retailers told us that the patrons buy suitcases and fill them full of merchandise.
They head home and sell their wares on the internet and at accessory parties.
I was stunned.
I like to shop as much as any dedicated retail therapist, but my idea of a vacation is not hitting up the premium outlets.
We were very controlled and walked away with a gorgeous pair of Belstaff leather sandals which retailed for $700. I paid $95.
My daughter grabbed a pair of silver studded Rag & Bone booties, retailing for $500. Her bottom line, $120.
We spent the day perusing, consuming and gabbing while finally singing our way home via an 80’s soundtrack.
The day ended with mani/pedis at Ruby’s.
The Dynamic Duo had a gold medal day.
