Romance in Rhode Island.
To celebrate our wedding anniversary, we decided to embrace Rhode Island.
Saturday, we hit the road by 7am and within two hours we were strolling the picturesque streets of Watch Hill, Rhode Island.
What an adorable village, reminescent of Nantucket and the Hamptons.
Rhode Island became the first of the Thirteen Colonies to renounce its allegiance to the British Crown and was the fourth to ratify the Articles of Confederation among the newly sovereign states.
How times have changed.
21st century promotion boast the fact that it is the summer home of singer/songwriter Taylor Swift.
We walked the beaches and swooned over each other at the gorgeous Relais & Chateaux property, Ocean House.
Hungry from uttering sweet nothings to each other while overlooking the ocean, we drove 20 miles to The Oyster House in South Kingston.
Suspended over the river, we indulged in local Point Judith steamers, oysters and lobsters.
For a Connecticut Yankee foodie, there is no better sustenance than a New England clambake.
To continue the sweet nothings, The Sticki Fins was across the road, offering unbelievable ice cream…Maine blueberry, sea salt caramel and fresh coconut.
I considered throwing myself off the bridge after making the ice cream all gone, but posted signs stopped me.
We then crossed two scenic bridges and perused Newport, visiting preserved historical sites, the wharf and cruising the Mansions on Bellevue Avenue.
Rhode Island inspires romance and we confirmed it.
