One of my favorite things to do on a non-football Sunday in Manhattan is to roam the city, east to west…uptown to downtown.
Recently, on a glorious fall day, we did just that, clocking 12 miles.
Halfway through the journey we took time to eat and rest our tired feet.
I am a fan of Gabriel Stulman’s empire, the Happy Cooking family of restaurants including, Perla Cafe, Joseph Leonard, Jeffrey’s Grocery, Fedora and bar Sardine.
All five of his restaurants are within walking distance of one another.
Rumor had it that Perla Cafe was a pearl of a brunch spot.
Done.
Recently, Perla moved from Minetta Lane to the corner of 10th Street and Fourth Street into the space that formerly housed, The Windsor.
The new location is bright and filled with meaningful artwork.
The owners have taken a lot of inspiration from Muhammad Ali and are influenced by the parallels between boxing and owning a restaurant…perseverance, preparation.
We strolled in and the host was incredibly welcoming.
We could choose either the bar or a table in the intimate, rustic surroundings.
We picked the bar where creative cocktails were being made for a thirsty gathering of millennials.
The cheeseburger looked amazing ($18), but I wanted to share with my husband so we ordered a divine Asparagus dish.
The selection was loaded with incredible tastes and surprises, including burrata, salsa verde, breadcrumbs and fried eggs ($17).
David ordered the Shrimp Salad which was also fabulous. I loved the yogurt dressing which enhanced the faro along with the beets and radish ($19).
The coffee was strong and flavorful.
The egg sandwich with basil pesto, oven dried tomatoes and cheddar ($15) and the spaghetti carbonara ($17) all looked enticing.
For a delicious and relaxing brunch, Perla Cafe soars.
