Vibrant Vitolo…South Florida Restaurant Review

Emilio’s Ballato is a New York City institution and long time celebrity hotspot.

I have entertained rock bands and music industry journalists at the family owned and operated restaurant.

Now you can experience the magic in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

Hailing from New York City, Chef Anthony Vitolo has earned a dedicated following due to his distinguished background as the Executive Chef and partner at the iconic Emilio’s Ballato.

The memorable, classic menu items from Emilio’s, such as baked clams, Caesar salad, fried calamari and scintillating pastas have made the transition to south Florida.

The eclectic restaurant was buzzing on a recent Friday night.

Vitolo boasts four distinct dining areas, each offering a unique experience.

The first is Vitolo’s Cucina, where an open-kitchen design creates a chef’s table experience, inviting guests to watch their meals being prepared.

The Sala Arco, a supper club lounge, is where you can enjoy cocktails or opt for an a la carte meal.

The outdoor Terrazza area channels the charm of Italian trattorias.

We were seated in the vibrant Library room.

Everyone is so friendly. Chef/owner Anthony Vitolo was in NY at Emilio’s Ballato. Chef de cuisine, Pietro Caruso, was circulating and making sure everyone was happy and things were running smoothly.

We started with drinks. I savored a refreshing Il Bellato Aperol Spritz ($17) and my husband ordered the fabulous Emilio’s Manhattan with Whiskey, Cynar Amaro, Figs Demerara and Antica Formula Sweet Vermouth ($17).

We knew we had to order the Vongole Oreganata (Baked Clams) with homemade breadcrumbs and lemon sauce. The clams did not disappoint ($26).

The chilled Caesar was outstanding served with their amazing classic dressing, crisp romaine and crunchy croutons ($18).

The mixed Mushroom were another highlight sautéed with shallots, pancetta and sweet peas ($16).

The Gamberi (Shrimp) Scampi was perfection. The gigantic shrimp were tender and flavorful. The linguine was prepared just right with a light garlic, white wine and lemon sauce topped with homemade breadcrumbs ($38).

The menu is extension and unlike Emilio’s Ballato in New York they offer fabulous pizzas. If I was not satiated I would have ordered the Bianca with baby arugula, fresh basil, mozzarella, Parmesan Reggiano, truffle ricotta, sauteed garlic, roasted cherry tomatoes and lemon zest ($26).

Vitolo is outstanding.

If you are living in or visiting south Florida you must visit Vitolo.
