As with openings on Broadway, dining at a brand new restaurant can elicit excitement.
The highly successful Qualiry Branded hospitality group which includes Smith & Wollensky, Quality Meats, Quality Italian, Zou Zou’s, Bad Roman and San Sabino now presentsTwin Tails.
After attending a preview of the new musical, Tammy Faye, we headed to Columbus Circle to try the 140-seat Twin Tails.
It is located in the Shops at Columbus Circle in the large space vacated by Bluebird London NYC.
Twin Tails offers a menu that celebrates the flavors, ingredients and techniques found throughout Southeast Asia with strong influences from Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.
The staff is lovely and the rooms very large and attractive with slick marble floors velvet banquettes, evoking 80’s NYC restaurants.
The cocktail list is intriguing, highlighted by a Lychee Martini.
I selected an Orange wine from France and my husband a French red.
I indulged in a single dressed Kusshi Oyster which was delicious ($5).
The Green Papaya and Kumquat Salad was presented tableside a la a Caesar Salad with elaborate flourishes completed by a mortar and pestle treatment with carrots, Thai basil and a heavy sprinkling of chili and garlic ($23).
The Maine Lobster Spring Rolls were hearty with a bit of crunch. The lobster is plentiful, but tasteless ($25).
The Green Curry Escargot with toast was the standout dish. The escargot were plumb and tasty and the green curry fabulous ($24).
The Tiger Prawn Pad Thai was just too spicy for me. My husband said the large prawns were tasty ($45).
There are a plethora of fish, steak and pork dishes, featuring a large, varied menu.
I really wanted to recommend Twin Tails. The view, staff and ambiance are stellar, but the pricey selections were sadly, mediocre.
The Speakeasy Bar by the front door could potentially be a terrific place to have a cocktail and light bite after holiday shopping at the Shops at Columbus Circle.
Twin Tails 10 Columbus Circle in the Shops at Columbus Circle on the 3rd floor. Open Monday-Thursday 5-10:30pm, Friday and Saturday 5-11pm. Reservations on OpenTable.com.
