My mother’s life lately is turning into a constant stream of ER reruns.
Sunday, the call came at 6am that she was in excruciating pain and 911 was on its’ way.
After running the gamut from colon cancer to food poisoning, I was presented with the diagnosis yesterday.,
The doctors have no idea what was wrong.
There is an infection so she is on broad spectrum antibiotics.
Her feet have been swelling since her cast came off after being encased for four months after fracturing her ankle.
What a way to live.
You think you have paid your dues and then as you age, there is often a barrage of health and financial issues.
My mother is one of the lucky ones as she has exceptional health insurance and money in the bank unlike many senior citizens.
But, every day there are issues to be dealt with that she just can no longer handle.
I am a passionate believer that every senior citizen who has physical or mental issues must have an advocate…this is imperative.
At least, Queen E is totally coherent and together unlike many her age.
I have become proficient with all the ins and outs of her life.
People keep telling me I should establish a senior concierge business.
I must spend a minimum of five hours a day on my mother’s care, finances and emotional issues.
This may be my next project so if any of you feel helpless or lacking knowledge, please reach out.
The long and winding road necessitates expert navigation.

She is BEAUTIFUL!!!
The blessings of having your mother still with you…
So sorry to hear about your mom. I am also navigating the same situation with my mother – almost 91. Mouth cancer, then fell and broke her hip a few weeks after diagnosis. It sucks and is so so sad. Being in pain is a terrible way to live your life. I, too, spend an inordinate amount of time tending to her care, while working full time. I’m moving her to asst. living on Friday, hoping the increased level of care will reduce my need to be on call all the time. She never wanted this, which I know.
