The Best?…

The Golden Glow has faded.

The 2023 Oscars have been presented, personalized and the borrowed dresses are being packed up and sent back to designers.

I have to be honest and say I wish the nominated movies were more entertaining and upbeat.

Top Gun was the only escape from our grim reality.

I did not enjoy Everything Everywhere as it was all over the place all at once.

I definitely enjoyed the cast acceptance speeches and the hope, kindness and tenacity that was a common thread throughout their speeches and spread throughout the telecast.

Women Talking is a film everyone should see, but it is a tough go. And, in light of what women are experiencing with the wrongful striking down of Roe v Wade, why are women portrayed by men as the weaker sex? We are the backbone and strength of the world order.

The Banshees of Inisherin was a huge bore and who is the ass who had the donkey killed off?!

Tar needs tuning.

Triangle of Sadness is a load of crap obsessed with bodily functions and the caste system.

Elvis is the Devil In Disguise.

The Fabelmans was sad, but ultimately, the happiest on the list.

The clothes were unbelievably disappointing  Stylists are highly overrated.

Too many ugly styles to point out (Halle Berry, Florence Pugh, Mindy Kaling, Sandra Oh, Lisa Rinna)…I will stay positive and vote for Angela Bassett, Cara Delevingne and Malala Yousafzai as best dressed.

I also miss when Best Song was just that. I thought my Smart TV dumbed up during David Byrne’s off key performance of This is a Life from Everything Everywhere All At Once.

The awards show is what it is.

For all the money spent on making movies, can’t the powers that be make movies that are compelling, entertaining and periodically upbeat.

Only Top Gun: Maverick and Avatar: The Way of Water drove movie theater attendance in 2022.

In the last four years theatrical attendance has declined by about 50 percent. Beyond Covid, I believe the quality and mass appeal of films has greatly diminished.

We have a daily dose of seamy reality…give us some hopeful, inspiring, captivating films and I bet people start hitting the theaters, once again in droves.
