The Sunshine State just became a bit brighter.
Sunny’s recently debuted in Miami and is a deliciously funfilled keeper.
Sunny’s started as an outdoor steakhouse pop-up in 2020. It was an empty lot with picnic tables scattered around a big tree.
After more than 2 years of renovations, Sunny’s recently opened and, foodies, listen up, let the good times roll.
There are now over 220 seats in the 13,000 square foot space, offering 148 martini variations, with an art deco bar, a patio, two separate dining rooms, a terrace, and an outdoor lounge. Every area serves a slightly different purpose.
I knew that I had to experience Sunny’s when it opened in Miami in late fall.
Over the holidays I paid a visit.
Food is fabulous, service is amazing, atmosphere is exhilarating, martinis are probably the best I seriously have ever imbibed and the reasonably priced Hanger steak rocked my infrequent carnivore world.
The entrance is modern and deceptive as you flow into a culinary indoor-outdoor jungle in the Little River warehouse district in Miami.
Once seated with a treetop view we got the party started with martinis accompanied by outstanding blue cheese stuffed olives ($19).
The server recommended a unique Caesar Salad which was wonderfully crisp, cold and tasty dominated by crunchy fried breadcrumbs ($19).
Former Edge Chef Aaron Brooks has cooked up a modern steakhouse menu, including pasta and seafood items, with steaks prepared over a live oak fire.
The moderately priced Hanger Steak which I would never order off the menu if the server had not recommended was outrageously tender and delectable.
The hanger steak is not only the least expensive steak on the menu, but arguably the best. It may not be as famous as the ribeye, but it’s an underrated cut that’s rich and flavorful. It was $39, plentiful and perfect for sharing with my daughter.
My husband’s fresh Dorade was sautéed with a caper vinaigrette sauce and seasoned to perfection ($38).
The sides were outstanding.
Piping hot and creamy Pommes Puree was served in a cast iron pot ($12).
The al dente Broccolini was terrific ($14).
The roving, charismatic manager spent a long time talking to us and even provided a tour of the large restaurant.
He could not believe we did not try the homemade Parker Rolls with honey butter so he sent them over. This is a carb worth ingesting. The rolls have a crunchy outside with a lovely pillowy center ($6).
The desserts were unbelievable. The Chocolate Ferrari Richer Cake served with coffee ice cream was rich and creamy ($16).
The Banana Toffee Cheesecake with cinnamon ice cream and pecans was outrageous and I am not a fan of the banana.
It was a perfect evening.
The Bobby Hebb 1966 R&B classic was on repeat all evening in my head…Sunny, one so true, I love you.
