2 for the price of 1.
Two reasonable, delicious dining establishments that deliver the goods without offending your wallet.
Pho Shop is a new Vietnamese restaurant located on 72nd Street on the upper west side of NYC.
Lunch specials are well priced and ample. The same menu is offered at night and the prices are modestly increased.
On a snowy Saturday afternoon we stopped by to sample the goods.
I ordered my favorite Vietnamese dish, Vermicelli Bun Grilled Pork Chop with Shrimp and Spring Roll over lettuce adorned with fried shallots, scallions, herbs, pickled daikon, cucumber, carrots and peanuts with a side of aromatic fish sauce ($13).
The salad was fresh and crisp, the pork well prepared and very flavorful..all in all a tantalizing meal.
My husband ordered the Bun Grilled Shrimp and Spring Roll. The shrimp were large and tasty and the bowl was prepared with the same garnishes as mine ($13).
Looking around, Pho was the most popular item.
Pho is presented in a huge bowl with noodles laden with your choice of short rib, beef, brisket, pork, meatballs, chicken, fish, seafood, vegetables or tofu.
Pho Shop specializes in Vietnamese soups and sandwiches and offers nearly a dozen varieties of pho and eight kinds of banh mi.
The restaurant is immaculate and nicely decorated.
Heading south, Hurricane Alley in historic downtown Boynton Beach, Florida is a real find if you are into casual, darn good, down home cooking, featuring fresh fish, seafood and an incredible raw bar.
Hurricane Alley fulfills all my seafood desires.
During my last trip to Florida, I ate at Hurricane Alley four times and was never disappointed.
The fresh Blue Pointe oysters are large and sweet and priced at $11.95 for one dozen it is a real bargain, especially since the price of fresh oysters have risen exponentially.
The steamed clams are sweet and fresh albeit a bit small, but quite delectable (12 for $14.95).
The Peel and Eat Shrimp served hot or cold (spicy or plain) are fabulous and anything you can dunk in clarified butter can’t be bad. The accompanying cold slaw is outstanding (24 large shrimp $17.95).
The fries are amazing and the portion is huge ($2.50).
There are many draft beers to choose from and a full bar.
Every beverage is a bargain, especially during Happy Hour from 3-6pm Monday-Friday. Brand name cocktails are $4.50, draft beer $2.50 and craft beer is $4.50. 12 raw Blue Pointe oysters and Steamed Middleneck clams both $10 for a dozen.
Overall, Hurricane Alley offers oversized sandwiches, wraps, salads, burgers, sushi, homemade soups, raw oysters, clams, fresh seafood, conch fritters, buffalo mac n cheese, lobster mac n cheese (delish), fresh smoked fish dip, jumbo wings and, unbelievably, much much more.
You cannot go wrong with either place…both very appetizing, reasonable and served in pleasing environments.

Yum. I have to try Pho Shop. Just ate at Thai 72 which I really like. That’s for the tantalizing pictures and review.
