Sailor Successfully Sails Into NY…Restaurant Review

Landing a restaurant reservation at a new and very popular restaurant is challenging.

Sailor sailed onto the scene a few months back.

A new collaboration between restaurateur Gabriel Stulman of Jeffrey’s Grocery, Joseph Leonard, Fairfax, Jolene fame and chef April Bloomfield (Spotted Pig) has been a hit since day one.

I finally won the lottery last Saturday for brunch.

We drove to Fort Greene and found parking.

We were early so we strolled DeKalb Avenue and wandered through Fort Greene Park and the active farmer’s market.

It had snowed overnight and the city was beautifully draped in a light coating of snow.

Sailor had us at hello.

What a lovely, friendly, well trained staff.

The restaurant is small, thus, one of the challenges of securing a spot. There is an 18-seat barroom, where reservations are not taken and a 20-seat dining room where they are and disappear within minutes of being offered.

We kicked lunch off with a delicious Caesar salad tastefully dressed with parmesan and crunchy croutons ($18).

The Burger was amazing bookcased by great bread, cheddar cheese, sauteed onions with a flavorful, substantial meat patty perfectly prepared. The burger was accompanied by crispy French fries ($29).

We had recently ordered a $45 burger at a new pinkies up place and Sailor’s was better.

The Toasted Everything Bagel with Salmon Pâté and Radish Sprouts was fabulously flavorful nestled on a delectable crisp bagel ($19).

With the Vanilla Sugared Donut starring at me for the duration of the meal I had to sample ($6).

It was dense yet light, incredibly satisfying and sugared to perfection.

I am sure dinner is equally delicious.

Sailor’s food sails in smoothly, the service hums and the prices reasonably toe the line.
