Pastis Is Back…

Pastis is back.

The classic French bistro welcomes you back and patrons feel as if Pastis had never closed.

It has been 5 years and the ionic restaurant has not missed a beat.

Pastis Interior

75% of the interior remains the same as the powers that been rescued all the important elements.

The dynamic restaurant team of Keith McNally and Stephen Starr have resurrected Pastis, once again, in the Meatpacking District.

The signature subway tile, mosaic floors, brushed aluminum doors, specials written on distressed mirrors and bountiful floral arrangements are all accounted for and present.

We went for Sunday brunch and the food was fabulous.

After being challenged for not showing up with the planned party of 3 (why do restaurants never answer their phones anymore?!) we were seated in the attractive front room.

Unfortunately, the late 30-something South Africans neglected to parent and we sat next to Chucky and his sister.

Back to the food.

I selected the classic Two Eggs any style, choice of meat and Pommes Tapees with country bread ($17).

The eggs were fluffy and delicious, the bacon crispy and warm which is never the case as were the potatoes, the bread soft and airy.

David selected the Smoked Norwegian Salmon that was beautifully plated with shaved onions, cucumbers and capers accompanied by a delectable bagel and cream cheese ($21).

About half of the entire menu is very familiar, serving escargots, onion soup gratinée, salade Niçoise, steak-frites, mussels and, on Fridays, bouillabaisse.

Pastis Patio

The restaurant appears larger than the original with ample outside dining.

Pastis Bar

Securing a reservation is challenging as Pastis has just reopened, but there is a large bar which I am sure can handle walk-ins.

Beyond the entitlementors, it was a lovely experience.

Welcome home, Pastis.
