I am a huge lobster and steamer fan.
Growing up in New England whenever we were beaching it or headed to the Clam Box in Greenwich, Wingaersheek Beach in Rockport, Massachusetts, summer camp in Maine and New Hampshire, Ford’s Lobster in Connecticut I couldn’t wait to dig into an amazingly delectable steamer and lobster meal.
We recently took a day trip to the Hamptons and ended up at the cozy, cute and totally informal Out of the Blue seafood restaurant.
The fresh seafood market and restaurant was deserted on a chilly, but beautiful late November weekend.
We had the loveliest server and ordered liberally.
We started with Lobster Bisque ($7) and Manhattan Clam Chowder ($5) both delicious…the creamy bisque was outstanding.
In order to quell our hunger after running around the beach for hours with our doggies we selected a half dozen local raw oysters that were sweet and went down easily.
We threw in an order of fried clams which were very good, but with all the fresh seafood I could have passed on the fried clams ($10).
The bucket of Steamers were outrageous and enhanced by dunking in the freshly made broth and sweet melted butter ($18).
The warm Lobster Roll meat was fantastic, big chunks of fresh lobster with a light butter bath ($30).
Even the fries were good.
Here are some fun Lobster facts…lobsters can live to 100 years old and beyond.
A lobster’s brain is in its throat and they taste with their feet.
Lobsters are a great source of heart healthy omega-3 fatty acids and are a low calorie meal.
Lobsters can weigh up to 40 pounds and grow to 4 feet long.
During colonial times lobsters were plentiful and were the food for the poor…I missed the boat on that…born at the wrong time.
Lobsters are not born red, but are naturally green, yellow or bright blue.
You have been educated.
Remember, the Hamptons are a great off season getaway.
Hang on the wide, sandy beaches, indulge in boutique retail therapy or do drive bys while fantasizing about living in one of the stately mansions located on the picturesque leafy lanes…talk about curb appeal.
And, of course, eating is always a priority.
