I appreciate consistently good comfort food wrapped up in a casual neighborhood hangout.
The Tavern On Jane in the West Village fits the bill perfectly and has since 1995.
The other night we wanted a quick, unadorned dinner.
It was a gorgeous evening in the city. Dining outside was a priority along with a need to sit al fresco as our doggie joined the party.
We ordered wine and kicked off dinner with a Caesar Salad with anchovies, croutons and Parmesan which was bountiful and satisfying ($12).
I ordered a simple grilled Wild Scottish Salmon with a delicious orange beurre blanc sauce which was perfectly prepared accompanied by a grilled baked potato and broccoli served al dente ($30).
My husband selected the Yellow Fin Tuna Club with ginger wasabi mayo and bacon. The piece of fish was substantial and the fries fabulous ($21).
Dessert was a slice of Apple Caramel Crumb Cake with vanilla ice cream which isn’t my thing, but the bite was tasty ($9).
Hamburgers are also a highlight at Tavern On Jane.
Tavern On Jane isn’t sexy and won’t be making any Hot and Trending lists, but If you desire a simple, moderately priced, quality meal, definitely drop into Tavern on Jane where, eventually, everyone will know your name.
Tavern on Jane 31 8th Avenue New York City. Open 12pm-4am Monday-Friday, Saturday and Sunday 11am-4am. Brunch menu also offered. Reservations accepted.
