Parking, pricing and attitude makes it challenging.
We had an appointment in BH so I searched for a reasonable place to eat that did not serve $100 plus steaks and $250 Omakase.
I settled on Mírame, an inventive, modern Mexican restaurant on busy Canon Drive.
It is very attractive and highlights beverages from Mexico…tequila, mescal and Mexican wines which I am totally unfamiliar with.
I inquired and asked to sample one of the red Mexican wines. Oddly, the bartender doesn’t share. For a $22 glass of wine I would like to know if I will enjoy it or not…weird, obnoxious policy.
We sat outside and the heat lamps kept us toasty on a chilly evening.
We kicked things off with margaritas which were fine. Much more ice than tequila from the stingy bartender.
The Classic Tijuana Caesar was fresh, chilled and crisp with Little Gem lettuce hearts, avocado and Corona Anejo ($17).
The Ceviche Classico was delicious, sprinkled with a little heat. The Kampachi was tender and flavorful with key lime, cucumber and avocado ($26). For $10 extra you can add Uni, but they were all out. Que Lastima!
The Butter Poached Lobster Tacos were very good with delicious ground esquites, miso guacamole salsa and fried pickled onions ($36).
The Fried Chicken Tacos with endive marmalade, Mexican ranch, pickles and chili oil were crunchy and delectable. I left the corn tortillas by the wayside ($18).
We wrapped the meal with the tasty, rich, gooey Mushroom Queso Fundido comprised of Hen of the Woods Mushrooms, braised leeks, quatro quesos and avocado ($22).
Mirame is an appealing place serving innovative Mexican food, but totally lacking personality.
Michelin Star Chef Joshua Gil’s uses locally sourced ingredients that expand on his original spin on Mexican cuisine such as house made masa from heirloom organic corn varietals.
Nowadays, dining out is pricey and you need it all…food, service, personality and a pleasing vibe.
If you find yourself in Beverly Hills and do not want to spend a fortune than try Mírame.
Once is enough for me.
