Sometimes uncomplicated food can be the best meal.
Recently, we were in the west village after a satisfying NY Giants win and we had worked up quite an appetite jumping and screaming for joy.
Meme on Hudson is a lovely, cozy, relaxed Mediterranean restaurant with an ample outdoor dining area owned by a charming gentleman who knows how to operate a NYC restaurant.
It was Sunday so the menu offered brunch and lunch items, ranging from assorted egg dishes and an authentic Shakshuka Moroccan breakfast to platters of chicken and lamb.
We settled in and began the search for what to eat.
I ordered a delicious chicken skewer platter (lamb also available) that was accompanied by a chopped salad, humus, cucumber yogurt, basmati rice and pita. The chicken was perfectly prepared, the salad fresh and crispy and the tzatziki proved to be a tantalizing dipping sauce ($22).
My husband went with the Grilled Octopus Salad with chickpeas, tomatoes, mix greens and fennel salad, dressed with a lemon vinaigrette ($18).
My daughter selected the Grain Bowl with farro, quinoa, avocado, baby kale, radish, cucumber, sunflower seeds and a poached egg ($20). She added delicious grilled jumbo shrimp ($10).
The owner dropped by with a dish of grillled Halumi which was fantastic.
Alon and Jacob Cohen have named their restaurant Meme after their mother which is French Moroccan for Grandma.
When the Cohen family emigrated from Morocco to Israel they brought with them their flair for hospitality and good food.
The Mediterranean menu showcases fresh ingredients and special spices shipped directly from their mother who still lives in Israel.
If tasty, reasonably priced, well prepared food in a pleasing setting is what you are looking for then check out Meme on Hudson.
