Massara Debut…NYC Restaurant Review

I have dined at many restaurants…some absolutely lovely and others not worth a second visit.

I recently dined at a standout.

Put Massara on your bucket list.

As with my husband, Massara has it all going on.

The food is outstanding, creative and the ambiance very appealing. In fact, I would love to live in the two-story building.

Massara chef, Stefano Secchi, commented that food in 2024 has to be regional, Campania, in the southwest of the boot including, Naples, Amalfi, Capri, and Ischia, favoring fish, seafood and fire, is well represented at Massara.

The service, food and atmosphere is soothing to the soul.

The staff is impeccable and unobtrusive.

There are two dining levels. I really enjoyed sitting on the second floor front dining area.

The wine list is a version of war and peace. The sommelier is well versed and welcoming. My pale yellow glass of Marisa Cuomo Costa D’Amalfi Bianco 2022 with hints of acacia and lemon verbena was outstanding  even at a $24 price point.

We started the journey with an exceptionally tender Polpo well grilled, in fact it had that fabulous Mediterranean char served with delicious beans ($19).

We wavered regarding ordering a Pizza, but it was the right choice.

The tomato sauce on the Pizzette Crudo was exceptional, the crust airy and slightly charred, the arugula flavorful and the prosciutto was like eating cotton candy that is how light it was ($17).

Cavatelli allo Sciglio aka Seafood Pasta was outrageous ($26).

The whole filleted Branzino had a tender, sweet element to the meat and was perfectly prepared.

The fish arrived with a trio of sauces…zabaglione, herby salmoriglio and puttanesca ($78).

The Baba Rum dessert was a bit disappointing  I always compare this particular dessert to the classic ones I devour in Paris. The cream and rum were great. I prefer a soufflé approach. This was an undercooked cake like pastry ($18).

The Flatiron building is decorated subtlely with green accented decor, stone and wood floors and intimate lighting.

I would suggest an evening at Massara before they are awarded a well deserved Michelin Star and it is impossible to secure a reservation.

Massara puts its sibling, Rezdora, to shame.

Massara 913 Broadway New York City. Open Monday-Saturday 5-10:30pm.  Reservations on Resy.
