Landmarc Is There…

Discover Landmarc at Columbus Circle.

Like your favorite pair of jeans, Landmarc is consistently a good fit and never disappoints.

Tucked in the corner on the third floor of the Time Warner Building amongst the glitz and glitter of Per Se and Masa, sits a neighborhood friend who is always delectably reliable.

We always sit at the bar with the lovely bar maidens who are a diverse, interesting assemblage of talent.

Coctails are plentiful, but their wines are the enticement. Wine is sold by the half and full bottle. The wine list offers quality wines at reasonable prices. The food is a great blend of french and Italian influences.

Last week we sampled a half bottle of cabernet sauvignon from Bench winery ($26), a neighbor of the wine and beverage manager, Redha Boutaghou, who has a dreamy piece of property in Napa. He has been overseeing the bar and beverage list since day one.

Our go to choices are the thick, moist and delicious Landmarc hamburger which comes with outstanding crispy fries and a side salad ($17).

Landmarc Steamed Mussels

Mr. Devil’s go to are the steamed mussels ($22) in a parsley, shallots and white wine broth. Mussels used to come in 2 sizes with an order of fries, but times have changed…no more fries and one moderate portion, but the same sweet, succulent mussels.

Notable appetizers include their lightly fried calamari ($14), warm goat cheese profiteroles ($15) and roasted marrow bones with onion marmalade and grilled country bread ($17).

Landmarc also has many salad options. My favorite is the Mediterranean salad with celery, cucumber, chickpeas, pepperoncini, black olives, grape tomatoes & feta accompanied by flatbread & oregano vinaigrette ($16 and $20).

Other salad offerings include Caesar ($14),  nicoise ($19), endive ($15), chopped ($16) and skirt steak salad ($30).

Desserts are on the small side and a sampler of all six including creme brulee, blueberry crumble, nutella eclair, lemon tart, tiramisu, chocolate mousse and the ever popular cotton candy is a treat ($20). Ice cream, sorbet and a lovely cheese platter are also on the menu.

The bar is consistently hopping. There is always a sideshow…first dates, drunken dates, pick up moves, eager tourists, weird regulars. The bar scene is a cornucopia of moving parts. I have been known to throw out, ‘Get a room’ during the early morning hours.

Note: If you can secure a reservation it is the perfect vantage point on Thanksgiving morning to view the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and simultaneously indulge in a delicious brunch.

The 300-seater opened in 2007. It is much larger scale than the original Landmarc, located in Tribeca. I quite like the industrial design with the rebar ceiling.

I am a metalhead so it suits me well. I think I was probably born in a factory as I love concrete and metal fixtures…definitely not a heavy metal fan as touring the world with metal bands which I did for many years is a giant headache…you are always on red alert for statutory rape and flying toilets.

When we are in NYC, Landmarc is a weekly stop, especially after theater. You know there is always a spot at the bar and a good meal on hand.

Landmarc sends you home on a sweet note with a handful of homemade caramels…rich, chewy and only 20 calories per buttery bite.

Marc Murphy

Super Chef and owner, Marc Murphy, doesn’t just look good (named to People’s 2014 Sexiest Men list and Food & Wine named him Sexiest Chef), he is also very involved with charitable organizations.

One great organization that he and his wife support is The Food and Finance High School. It is an amazing New York City public school which offers an academically rigorous education in the culinary arts. The school trains a diverse population…nearly 80% of students come from economically disadvantaged homes. Murphy frequently hires the FFHS students to intern at his restaurants.

Do yourself a favor…benchmarc Landmarc.
