Kaptivating Kapara…Paris Restaurant Review

Making magic yet again.

The Israeli hospitality group that has graced Paris with Shabour, Balagan and Boubale has reinvented Balagan and turned the former restaurant into the deliciously fun filled Kapara.

Located in the swanky 1st arrondissement in Paris, close to the Louvre and Place Vendome, Kapara has it all going on, serving a menu that infuses Iraqi and Moroccan takes on Israeli cuisine.

In their new Kapara venue, Assaf Granit and his partner Tomer Lanzman have called upon chef Zohar Sasson.

If you are fortunate enough to dine at Kapara, you must sit at the chef’s counter, admiring and participating in the singing and laughter from the ebullient kitchen crew.

We spent the tantalizing evening conversing with Chef Jessica and sous chef Ben.

Jessica who hails from Australia graciously offered to order for us.

Every dish was fresh and delectable in its layered simplicity.

We were gifted sparkling wine to get the meal in motion.

We commenced the dinner party indulging in the divine bread and Kubana dips comprised of Tahini, Zhuhai and Burnt Tomatoes (11Euros).

Next, the Petit Four de Svet was fabulous, featuring Sashimi, Beetroot, Labaneh, Citrus and Blackberry Coulis (26 Euros).

The Bim Bam was a delectably fun item. Just dig in, hoist and indulge in the Corn Ribs embellished with Corn Aioli and Gorgonzola (18 Euros).

The Ursula Octopus starter with Figs, Burnt Tzatziki and Coriander was perfectly grilled and absolutely tantalizing (27 Euros).

The Barbara Sea Bass main course with a Beurre Blanc sauce was out of this world…light, flaky, tender and just the right amount of sea salt seasoning with Potatoes and  Grape Leaves Gratin (34 Euros).

Kapara is narrow, attractively decorated and a happy place with motivating music.

All the eating was done to a soundtrack including the Red Hot Chili Peppers and other aggressively complimentary bands along with traditional singalong songs.

Desserts were off the charts. The chocolate marshmallow treat isn’t even on the menu.

The light as air Tapuzina was addictive. It is comprised of Orange Cremeux, Hazelnut Streusel, Dryblood Oranges and Zaatar (16 Euros).

You can end the joyful evening in the intimate speakeasy located in the restaurant.

For a fun, tantalizing, deliciously engaging evening Kapara is a Parisienne must.

Kapara 9 Rue d’Alger Paris, France. Open for lunch Monday-Saturday 12-2:30pm and Dinner is nightly 7pm-1:30am.
