Just had an email exchange with one of my Chrysalis artists, Nick Gilder. You must remember, “Hot Child In the City.” It was Chrysalis’ first #1 single and boy, did we work that song! Nick was always a pleasure and is still touring in his homeland of Canada. Nick’s other #1 hits include, “Roxy Roller” when he was in the group, Sweeney Todd and he co-wrote Scandal’s (featuring Patty Smyth), “The Warrior”.
An astute friend recently pointed out that I am able to segue gracefully from one subject to another in my blog so buckle up, here comes the segue…what do you do during these long, hot summer days and nights to make you a, ‘hot child in the city?’
Let’s face it, unless you are one of the unbelievably boring people I knew in northern California, we all still possess a wild streak and music reminds us that we can still walk on the wild side. Do you have Friday date night…imbibe several martinis and then stumble into bed for a rumble with your husband or partner? Do you don a short skirt, tight top, go braless (that could be dangerous for anyone over 30).
I love to put the top down, hit the PCH or Merritt Parkway, depending on which coast I am on and blast tunes such as the current huge hit of 2013, “Blurred Lines,” featuring Robin Thicke, T.I. and Pharrell Williams (have you seen the video…naked time!) or driving down memory lane and spinning the classic, “Under the Boardwalk”…the Drifters played at my junior prom. How about the Lovin Spoonful’s, “Summer in the City” which pretty much describes the weather in NYC and the eastern seaboard lately. I used to put that song on my answering machine when I was in grad school in Boston.
This is the time of year that you can actually do that romantic shit we women always dream about and men lie about wanting to do to get a girl to go out with them….long walks on the beach, holding hands, flirty discourse. In my misspent youth, I actually auditioned to be a Breck Girl and did that walk of shame on the beach with a hot Waspy guy and 2 golden retrievers! Alas, I didn’t get the part, but sure loved tossing my hair and holding hands with an Adonis.
The truly great thing about music and summer hits, in particular, are the memories they invoke. Next time you have alone time, do song association and I bet you end up with a huge grin on your face. Even “Call Me Maybe,” the mega summer hit of 2012 and guilty pleasure, makes me smile and when Eric plays it in spin class I take off like Lance Armstrong and actually believe that I can look killer in a 2 piece thong bikini. And don’t you just what to groove to another current summer hit, I Love It (I Don’t Care by Icona Pop).
Go on, channel your “hot child” and have a totally rad summer.
