Have You Dordogned?!…

Have you Dordogned?!

Get on it!

What a truly gorgeous part of France.

The Dordogne region is known for its picturesque medieval villages, prehistoric cave paintings, vineyards, truffles and meandering country roads.

Beyond the land exploration our other main purpose was to stay with friends in their newly restored farmhouse.

La Rougie is a gorgeous blending of the old and the new.

The thoughtful combination of metal and concrete just knocks you out.

Kelly and Francois are a fabulous couple who have invested blood, sweat and tears of joy into La Rougie.

You must make a point of staying at this aesthetically pleasing  bed  and  breakfast  for  both  the tranquility and  hospitality.

The added benefits include a smart, engaging couple, their adorable one year-old son and two welcoming doggies.

Kelly is an amazing cook. Her meals presented on attractive crockery, handmade by Francois’ mother, will excite your palate as you delight in the food and presentation surrounded by  the stunning ambiance.

Francois is an accomplished and meticulous mixologist…the dynamic duo possess a devastating one-two punch.

Even the lotions and shampoos provided in the modern open and airy bathrooms are top shelf.

We ventured out the first day and drove just under two hours to Rocamadour which has been a pilgrimage site for centuries.

Seven medieval chapels are carved into the cliffside overlooking the river and the 216 steps of the Grand Escalier (Grand Staircase) have been ascended a million times over….include me in that number. No Peloton needed yesterday.

We then stopped at Le Belvedere, a delightful restaurant outside of Rocamadour.

The view is breathtaking.

We indulged in an Orecchiette pasta with fresh truffles that was outstanding. Truffles are indigenous to the area.

They also offered Escargots  baked in faux pastry snail shells so you just pop the entire tantalizing treat into your mouth.

After lunch we drove one hour to Sarlat-La-Caneda, a medieval city in the Dordogne.

Tomorrow is Lascaux and the cave paintings, Périgueux and back to the Bordeaux region.

We will miss our delicious dinners and thoughtful conversations at La Rougie.
