Shout it from the rooftops, Bar Funke is fabulous.
The new Beverly Hills three story restaurant is outstanding, featuring a 1930s Art Deco restored exterior.
I dined on the Bar Funke rooftop on a gorgeous, full moon June evening.
The ambiance is ethereal with a great sound system enhanced by a translucent Cristallo Rosa quartz bar which sparkles once the sun sets.
The hostess was lovely and set the stage for a memorable evening under the stars.
Our server, Chuck, guided us through the menu.
Bar Funke is all about cocktails and my husband indulged in a pink hue Sicilia with Tequila, Amara, Prickly Pear, Blood Orange and Lime. Basically a Sicilian take on a Margarita ($25).
I opted for an organic Orange wine which was perfect for the evening ($23).
We started with Rucola salad with Parmesan. The Arugula was crisp and peppery ($22).
The Linguine al Limone with Meyer Lemon, Wild Asparagus, Ramps and Parmigiano Reggiano was sensational…citrusy, bright and al dente. Chef Funke is known for his homemade pastas and his restaurants feature a glass enclosed room where pasta is born and nurtured ($36).
David order wine with dinner and the Barolo was outstanding ($29).
The Tonno alla Siciliana was amazing. YellowfinTuna charred on the outside and pink and delicious inside garnished with fresh sweet market tomatoes, basil and olives in a pesto and olive oil sauce ($52).
The dessert, Ciambelle Fritte, was amazing. Hot donuts with a vanilla verbena gelato adorned with fresh strawberries ($24).
Our neighbors ordered a wide range of food. They commented that the Diavola Salami and Mozzarella Pizza was good, but the bottom crust was moist and not crispy like the top pizza crust ($30).
Everyone seems to love the homemade Sfincione (Sicilian focaccia) In Bianco Focaccia Bread ($12) and orders of the fried Squash Blossoms stuffed with ricotta and Parmesan flew out of the kitchen ($28).
We took the elevator up escorted by staff and walked down through the vine adorned ramp taking in the second and first floor dining areas, including the Pasta Lab.
I must admit that I have never enjoyed Chef Evan Funke’s food. His first restaurant in Culver City was mediocre at best and they banned cell phones which made it difficult to review and projected a snotty attitude.
Felix Trattoria in Venice is overrated, Mother Wolf in Hollywood is fine. He has finally found his footing with Bar Funke and the more formal Funke, insuring a magical dining experience.
