Purdy’s Farmer & the Fish is a real find.
You experience an authentic farm atmosphere surrounded by flourishing flowers, fresh produce along with fabulous food.
The journey took less than an hour on a warm end of summer Sunday.
We arrived at high noon for our reservation.
The porch is an adorable area outside the original cozy 18th century farmhouse.
We dined amongst the towering sunflowers.
We we’re welcomed with homemade muffins and creamy butter.
We started with, in all sincerity, the best Bloody Mary I have ever tasted…it’s the old fashioned, original recipe devoid of the awful mix and watery consistency.
As with the sunflowers it is a tall drink adorned with a potpourri of fresh seafood including clams, oysters and shrimp.
Our starter was a grilled fresh Scallop Salad perched on top of perfectly dressed frisée with lemon aioli, crispy bacon, fingerling potatoes and a sunny side up egg. The flavors were amazing ($21).
The East and West Coast Oysters were sweet and iced cold.
I ordered the warm Lobster Roll on a well toasted bun. The lobster was rich and plentiful, the polenta fries were scrumptious ($34).
My husband indulged in a giant fresh Big Eye Tuna Burger with wasabi aioli. He said it was perfection and the fries were terrific ($24).
The menu is lengthy and varied and worth a revisit.
Purdy’s Farm is the end result when a fishmonger partners with a chef who studied agriculture. It is a wonderful community-oriented restaurant with locally grown produce and high-quality seafood.
There is also an adorable market with lots of enticing options. I selected a creamy homemade rice pudding to go ($7.99).
Purdy’s is a terrific little getaway and eavesdropping is a hoot. One customer asked for a nonalcoholic martini and another complained that the steamers were too wet…rich suburban folk!
