It has been a while since I raved about a restaurant.
Drum roll please…Don Angie is a place to raise the roof about.
An intimate, tastefully decorated Italian-American restaurant in the west village, Don Angie is a real find.
We literally opened the place, arriving at 5pm when the bar beckoned the parched patrons…food service begins at 5:30pm.
We arrived early because reservations are tough to come by.
The bar crawlers were a lively, friendly bunch and we shared stories and food.
We sat with Mark, the accomplished and accommodating bartender.
I started with my summer cocktail of chose, an Aperol Spritzer which is also the favored cocktail in Italy ($14).
David went with a house specialty, a smokin’ Margarita consisting of Tequila, Calabrian Chili Honey, Blood Orange and Fennel Liqueur ($16).
We started with the fabulous House Salami & Cheese comprised of custom Campari Salami, Crescenza Cheese, Orange Flower Honey with waffle crackers ($15).
The Chrysanthemum Salad was stellar, showcasing an abundance of flavor with sesame and topped with a mound of grated parmesan cheese ($14).
Our neighbors ordered the house specialty, Lasagna for 2 which is rumored to be divine ($64).
I ordered the sumptuous Chicken Scarpariello with blackened sausage, capocollo, Anaheim chiles which was uniquely delicious, the white meal very tender and flavorful ($26).
We also selected a side of Eggplant Agrodolce with pine nut brittle and mint which was amazing ($9).
David ordered the creamy Stracchino Gnocchi with black & white poppy seed, green and yellow Chive which was sensational ($21).
Another bar patron selected the Prime Rib Braciole For Two which was humungous and purportedly tender and delectable ($116).
They even shared their authentic garlic bread which isn’t on the menu.
At Don Angie two chefs share the kitchen, Angela Rito and her husband, Scott Tacinelli who met while working in the kitchen at Quality Italian.
Quality Branded, the restaurant group behind Quality Italian, Quality Meats and Quality Eats, is a major investor in Don Angie.
Don’t miss out on Don Angie…it proves to be a night to remember.
