Deflated At Clinton St. Baking Company & Restaurant…NYC Restaurant Review

I will make this review as quick as our meal.

I spent days on Notify alert for a brunch reservation at Clinton St. Baking Company & Restaurant.

I finally secured a reservation for three on a Sunday at 2pm.

The place was packed. A line of hangry people were also waiting outside.

We were immediately seated.

Our server was jolly and expressive about her favorites on the menu.

Decisions made.

I ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich with lemon-pepper mayo, shredded romaine, pickled green tomatoes on a Clinton St. Kaiser roll, with fries, slaw, and a LES pickle ($19).

The server said when away from the restaurant she dreamt about it. For me it was a bad dream with very garlicky mayo and less than crispy fried chicken. The roll was tasty.

My husband is a pancake fan so ordering the much heralded Wild Maine Blueberry Pancakes with Warm Maple Butter was a no brainer. He enthusiastically dug into a raw middle. We had a redo, but the thrill was gone and he consumed maybe half the order ($18).

Cafe Fiorello Blueberry Pancakes

By the way, nothing beats the Blueberry Pancakes at Cafe Fiorello on the Upper West Side.

My daughter was excited about her Latke Eggs Benedict with poached eggs, house smoked salmon, classic hollandaise, trout roe caviar, over crispy potato The smoked salmon literally stunk to hell. That order was a complete waste ($23).

In 40 minutes we were in and out, unsatisfied and hangry.

I am not saying do not go to Clinton Street Bakery.

After all it has been a popular breakfast and brunch destination since 2001 with talented chef/owner Neil Kleinberg at the helm.

They use only the best ingredients and everything is made on the premises.

The eclectic menu takes inspiration from the American South, coastal New England, Jewish New York and the Spanish cooks who bring their rich culinary traditions from Mexico and the Southwest.

Perhaps we hit it on an off day  I know that I will not be a repeat customer. Plus, it’s on the lower east side where parking and mass transit are challenging from uptown.

In actuality, It took longer to find parking than to eat brunch.
