The 2015 Father’s Day was a motha’ of a day.
My specialty is planning events, among my other talents…I won’t bore you with my attributes.
I live by the adage, “If a thing’s worth doing, is worth overdoing.” I always try to overstimulate and never leave peeps wanting.
Boredom is a malignant state and I avoid it at all costs.
Yesterday dawned damp and humid, but I pushed aside that moist annoyance and kick started David early with a stylin’ suit from Carolina Herrera.
After the fashion show, we were in the car and cruisin’ down 2nd Avenue to Russ & Daughters by 8:45 am.
It’s orgasmic to drive in NYC without traffic. We journeyed from the upper west side to the lower east side in under 20 minutes…hallelujah.
We found an idyllic parking spot around the corner from Russ & Daughters Cafe, a direct descendant of the smoked fish and caviar institution at 179 East Houston Street.
We went to town and had a fab breakfast, highlighted by smoked salad, blintzes and kasha.
We strolled the lower east side. Very few stores now exist which used to be the mainstay of the neighborhood…just boutique hotels and restaurants. All trace of the landing ground for European immigrants wiped clean.
We drove back to the upper west side, dressed for our impending theater date and took in the new Mark Ruffalo film, Infinitely Polar Bear. Ruffalo is on my top 10 list of actors and the small film is charming and engaging.
Ruffalo plays a manic-depressive father who is put in charge of his two daughters when their mother, played by Zoe Saldana, moves from Boston to New York to pursue an M.B.A.
We left the movie and headed to Broadway to catch the 3pm matinee of Skylight, starring Carey Mulligan and Bill Nighy. Yesterday’s performance concluded the successful run.
Skylight was written by in 1995 by British dramatist David Hare. It deals with natters of the heart, life, and complicated circumstances between an older man and a younger woman.
The play was well written and the acting superb. I adore Bill Nighy and would see him in anything. Scoop…Carey Mulligan is definitely pregnant.
We gave our regards to Broadway and jumped into the car and headed back down to the east village to have a scrumptious Korean dinner at trendy 4 month old, Oiji, on 1st Avenue and 7th Street. The food was delicate, rich and flavorful.
The celebration ended triumphantly at Davey’s where the ice cream is made on-site from raw ingredients. Each batch requires a four-day-long production schedule.
Total pleasure was experienced by all.
The only thing missing in an otherwise perfect day was our incredible daughter and our reason for Father’s Day, Courtny.
We love you, Ms. Thing and wish we were all together.
Thank you, David for being a top notch dad, always there for your girls and for sharing your day with me.
