Another 14 hour day.

The match of the day was up and coming 17 year-old American teenager, Victoria Duval, taking down 2011 US Open champ, Australian, Samantha Stosur. She powered through in 3 sets in the first round of the tournament. Duval, who is a qualifier, is ranked 296th and won 5-7, 6-4, 6-4. This was just her second Grand Slam match.

Saw John Isner win big against Italian, Filippo Volandri.

One of my all time favs is Gael Monfils and he did not disappoint, running all over the court, slamming winners between his legs. falling backward onto the blue surface while making a perfect net shot. He sparkled in neon orange and took down Romanian, Adrian Ungur, in straight sets.

Another upset victory was had by American, Jack Sock, who out hit German, Philipp Petzschner in 4 sets.

I must admit to working with some cranky older (probably my age!) women. I love the energy of most of the younger folk. Today’s tennis tip…don’t become inflexible, bias, joyless in your mature years…change is good…still groove in those Apple Bottom Jeans! I sure miss the broadcast booth. Speaking of booth, I ran into the debonair Jim Courier and lovely Mary Joe Fernandez today…

Need my sleep as I am up and out again in a few hours…point, set, match…goodnight.
