Here’s Hoping 2019 is off to a great start despite the reality that Agent Orange is still residing in the people’s house.
Since no one ever wants to read a rehash of, How I Spent My Holiday Vacation or What I did On New Year’s Eve, I shall spare you the details.
Everyone knows I am not normal so the following is my list of things to do in the New Year rather than the end of year wrap up.
Here are a few suggestions on how to entertain oneself during the usually chilly and uneventful month of January.
See the film, Green Book…set in 1962 during segregation, it is a touching, funny, heartbreaking movie superbly acted by Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali.
Personally, I found Green Book a far superior film to If Beale Street Could Talk.
If you are in New York City, put gospel infused, Choir Boy on your list of must sees…a coming of age story which follows a group of young African-American students at Charles R. Drew Prep School for Boys as they struggle with issues of identity and sexuality. Book is by Tarell Alvin McCraney’s, who wrote the Oscar winning film, Moonlight.
Watch Springsteen On Broadway on Netflix. I was lucky enough to see it up close and personal, but the Netflix special has magnificently captured the magic that Springsteen created on Broadway.
Watch seasons 1 and 2 of the award winning, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel…season 2 is 10 episodes of fabulosity. The costumes are spectacular…anyone interested in joining me for High Tea so I can showcase my new Midge chapeau?!
For a delicious and calorie free interlude check out Great British Baking Show on Netflix. It’s a feel good experience.
South Florida is an inexpensive weekend getaway flight during the frigid winter. Eat at Joe’s Stone Crab, stroll through the Miami Design District, an area of the city which has recently been transformed into an exclusive luxury shopping destination with amazing architecture, hit up the Wynwood Walls district, spend a day at a gorgeous south Florida beach.
Read Educated by Tara Westover, voted one of the best books of 2018. Educated is an unforgettable memoir about a young girl who lived in isolation with her her brothers and sisters. She flees her survivalist family and goes on to earn a PhD.
Pick up Michelle Obama’s memoir, Becoming. Take a joyful, positive journey with a remarkable, relatable woman.
Eat at Sociale in Brooklyn Heights before it’s too late.
Looking for a refreshing start to the morning, try a spoonful of delish…Oui by Yoplait, french style Yogurt, especially the coconut.
Be kind, patient and generous of spirit…January can be a long, hard slog so spice up a generally blah month with some worthwhile entertaining, reasonably priced experiences.
