Crevette isn’t just a seafood spot. It is a full-on flavor vacation tucked into NYC where the seafood is divine and the cocktails feel like summer flirtations in a glass.
Sure, the name says shrimp (Crevette for the Francophiles), but the menu goes far beyond the tasty crustacean.
The cocktails are creatively refreshing and that is how we kicked off our recent Saturday night restaurant extravaganza. I chose a Henri Bardouin Pastis ($12), a favorite of mine, especially when sipping my way through France. Pastis is prominently featured on the adult beverage list along with a uniquely refreshing Pastis Gimlet made with Pernod, Lime, Lemon and Sugar ($18).
The Bread and a divine Spanish Extra Virgin Olive Oil along with a plate of olives awaits you at your table. The bread is crunchy with a light and airy center. A repeat portion of bread is an additional $5.
The main event commenced with the Fennel Salad, a masterclass in refreshing crunch, with mint, pecorino and citrus notes that say, “I’m healthy,” yet delicious ($19).
The salad set the stage for the Grilled Wild Mushrooms, Egg Yolk and Foie Gras, a rich, earthy, and decadently smooth appetizer which reverberates on your tongue like a jazz solo you weren’t ready for ($30).
We did a deep dive into the appetizers as they were all so appealing.
The Spanish Tortilla with Morels and fantastically fresh and sweet Ramps which, by the way, are finally in season, is creamy and comforting ($26).
The Peekytoe Crab Agnolotti with Spring Peas and Green Garlic was delightful and the peas heavenly ($26).
We had originally selected the Seafood Rice with Saffron, Razor Clams and Lobster ($38), but, alas, it was made with green peppers and I am allergic.
My dining companion ordered a tasty morsel, Bluefin Tuna with Guindilla Pepper and a Crispy Potato ($8).
We concluded the savory portion of the meal with an outrageously crispy and decadent Fritto of Soft Shell Crab and Basil ($28).
In case seafood is not your food of choice, lamb ribs, golden chicken and duck are among the tantalizing entrees.
Do not miss out on desserts. Nelson, our gracious, well informed server, highly recommended the Rhum Cake with grilled Pineapple and Butterscotch and he kindly included a soft-serve from the in-house machine. The butterscotch sauce is to die for ($18).
Crevette which opened in February, is the third restaurant (Dame and Lord) from partners in life Patricia Howard and chef Ed Szymanski.
The restaurant is naturally bright with large widows and comfortable seating with an enticing bar area perfect for walk-ins.
When summer hits Crevette will be the spot for open air and sidewalk seating.
In a city full of restaurants yelling for your attention, Crevette speaks in a sultry whisper: “Come back soon.” And, trust me, you will.
Crevette 10 Downing Street West Village New York City. Open Tuesday-Saturday 5-11pm. Reservations on Resy.
