Fabulosity…a perfect description of Covina, a brand new restaurant in NYC.
Located in the Flatiron district, Covina is a lovely, comfortable, delectable place to enjoy a few hours of all that is good in life.
Covina is the latest addition by chef Tim and Nancy Cushman (O Ya) in the Park South Hotel. They also manage the rooftop menu at the charming boutique hotel.
The Mediterranean‑American menu is strong on housemade pastas, pizzas and wood‑grilled meat and seafood.
Our server, Alex, was a joy and turned me on to a delightful sparkling French rose, Patrick Piuze Val De Mer ($15).
We kicked things off with a wonderful Salmon Tartare with black olive oil, crispy artichoke and pickled radish ($15).
The Spring Asparagus Cacio e Pepe was amazing…seriously. The asparagus was shaved with ample black pepper and pecorino ($12).
The Caesar Covina was one of the best I have ever had ($16).
The pizza was terrific. We ordered the Fontina & Brussel Sprout with mascarpone, fontina béchamel and pear. It was beyond delicious ($18).
Those Stefano Ferrara ovens certainly produce amazing pizzas.
Michael, the manager, was charming.
The evening ended on a sweet note as Alex brought over outrageous homemade blueberry ice cream as well as rhubarb sorbet.
I cannot wait to go back.
Covina is in a dead heat with Wildair for new favorite NYC restaurant.
