Coffee Time…

I ordered dinner last night and it just did not resonate.

I was in need of comfort food and my desire was coffee ice cream.

I am not much of an ice cream consumer.

Perhaps I was channeling Queen E. Coffee ice cream was her passion.

The next conundrum was should I be a purist or dive into the more exotic blend of coffee with chocolate chips?!

Thinking about this sudden need I mused that life often feels like a choice between the comforting consistency of coffee ice cream and the unpredictable contrast of coffee with chocolate chips.

What if these choices were metaphors for resilience in the face of life’s challenges?

Coffee ice cream represents the search for stability when life feels overwhelming.

After the uncertainly of whether my home in Pacific Palisades was lost in the fire, I craved this kind of soothing familiarity, a reminder that even in the midst of unimaginable loss, there’s still sweetness to be found.

It’s the moments of comfort, a kind word, a helping hand, or even a scoop of ice cream that ground us when the world feels like it’s spinning out of control.

On the other hand, coffee with chocolate chips mirrors the unpredictable twists life throws our way. There is power in leaning into the unexpected, finding ways to regain control and reclaim your narrative.

These two treats remind me that life is both bitter and sweet. There are moments when we must let ourselves be comforted and then there are moments when we must embrace unpredictability, tackling life’s challenges head-on.

So, when life presents you with challenges, remember this…some days are coffee ice cream days and others are coffee with chocolate chip days.

Both are worth savoring.

In the end, I preferred the unadorned, comforting pure coffee, luxuriating in sweet thoughts of my mom relishing an entire pint of Haagen Dazs coffee ice cream and never gaining a pound from her frequent nocturnal indulges.
