Broadway, Bureaucracy, Balls, Eats, Elephants & Football…

I survived heat, a monsoon and true fall like Sunday football weather all in the course of three days.

The weekend commenced with a bureaucratic miracle.

My California car registration had gone missing since March. The annual charge went through, but no sticker.

We tried every phone munber, in person branch, but to no avail. The car had to be stored because you know the moment the rubber hits the road the police would be there to stop and ticket.

My husband is the champion of executive letter writing. After sending a registered letter I received a call back from a sympathetic, take action female California DMV manager. I actually believe that I may receive the necessary sticker…miracles allegedly happen.

We celebrated with an amazing dinner at a new restaurant.

Saturday, we went to theater with no expectations except the privilege of seeing Broadway icon Patti LuPone live on stage with the somewhat reclusive Mia Farrow.

What a treat. The Roommate is a delightful, charming well written and superbly acted play.

We departed smiling and delighted with the unexpectedly wonderful theater experience.

Upon exiting the theater a rainstorm of epic proportions hit. 25 minutes after sheltering in place with dozens of other drenched humans we finally headed home.

Dinner was at our new favorite neighborhood spot, Canto  Great food and prices.

Sunday, I was ready for some football. The only pre-game disappointment was Disney’s self defeating scheduling of the men’s U.S. Open final at the same time as opening day of the NFL games.

The football fan verdict by 4pm Sunday…the NY Giants Suck. Yes, capital “S”. QB Daniel Jones should slink out of town under cover of darkness.

American Taylor Fritz lost in the final of the U.S. Open to #1 ranked Sinner and the Yankees joined the losers posse. All those balls in the air and each one landed with a thud.

Given my tendency to slip into darkness with all the losses I conjured up my herd mentally and reentered the concrete jungle to graze with the Elephants.

The elephants arrived Friday in the Meatpacking District in coordination with Elephant Family USA.

100 life-sized Indian elephant sculptures are on display from September 6th through October 20th.

You must see the exhibit which benefits indigenous and community led conservation efforts, promoting peaceful animal and human coexistence.

Each elephant is one-of-a-kind in the 100-strong herd.

200 indigenous artisans living within India’s Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve have reclaimed the Lantana Camara, an invasive plant species that has entangled 300,000 square kilometers of India’s forests and diminished food sources for all herbivores.

Using Lantana as material, the collective has recreated every elephant they live alongside, known well by name and personality, in intricately detailed sculptural form.

The Elephant exhibit is remarkable and the detail exquisite. All the elephants are for sale and benefit a great cause. Donations are gratefully welcome.

I lost a lot this past weekend, but also experienced several stellar victories.
