Diners…what’s old is new again.
According to the New York Times and Chef Joe Miller, formerly of the iconic Joe’s on Abbott Kinney Boulevard in Venice, California, they’re baaaack.
Joe has just opened a fabulous new diner in Santa Monica.
Rudy & Hudson combines a NY diner style with California fresh ingredients.
IHOP went bye bye and now you can order truly delicious pancakes at Joe’s new place, Rudy & Hudson California Diner.
The potato pancakes are authentic, crispy and dense served with chunky applesauce and sour cream ($10).
The name honors the owners, Joe Miller and Lawrence Rudolph’s, grandparents.
The place has been spiffed up along with a bar area, equip with TV.
Whimsical artwork adorns the back wall, featuring Juvederm enhanced lips…how L.A.
Breakfast is heaped with choices…organic egg omelets, egg sandwiches, an English Breakfast, vegetarian and fried rice bowls, a breakfast burrito.
There is even a lox and bagel treat ($10.50) and a caramelized whole grapefruit ($5).
Of course, the entire gamut of espresso drinks and pastries are offered.
Or you can order Fried Chicken with your waffles at breakfast…or lunch and dinner ($16).
The most expensive breakfast item is a truffle jack cheese omelette at $13.75.
Lunch and dinner are highlighted by a wondrous grilled cheese with gruyere, smoked gouda and white cheddar on country bread ($8.50).
The hamburger was a tasty handful ($10.75).
Additional tempting items include Barbecue Pork Ribs ($14.50), Beef Brisket ($15) and Steak with Fries which are crispy and delicious ($17.50).
David ordered the California Sand Dabs which were tender, served with potatoes and braised greens ($17.25).
There is also a great Kids Menu.
Beer and wine are coming soon.
Feel free to roll down your bobby socks and press your poodle skirt or just get on over to Rudy & Hudson for some authentic yet elevated diner food in a very accessible setting.
Not on the menu, but just as agreeable, ample free parking…in LA that is a palatable item.
