New York City is so hot and humid.
It is the perfect time to be indoors and see a Broadway show.
34 new plays and musicals opened this season and, although I am a bit hard pressed to recommend many of the new openings, it still is an amazing experience to hit up Broadway.
If you live in the NY area or are planning a visit before September 15th you must see Oh, Mary, a dark comedy starring Cole Escola as a miserable, suffocated Mary Todd Lincoln in the weeks leading up to Abraham Lincoln’s assassination. It is deliciously insane, tastelessly hysterical.
I recently attended a performance of Stereophonic which won the Tony Award for Best Play.
What the hell is all the chatter about?! Boring, an unimpressive representation of making an album.
I have lived that life and my reality is much more interesting.
The performances were good. I still want my three hours back. I just don’t get it.
Appropriate with Sarah Paulson was outstanding, but recently ended its extended run.
Shows that made my Boredway List 2024:
The Heart of Rock and Roll, Water For Elephants, Days of Wine and Roses, Illinoise, The Who’s Tommy. Suffs.
Mary Jane and Merrily We Roll Along which has a stellar cast comprised of Daniel Radcliffe, Jonathan Groff and Lindsay Mendez were good, not great.
I will definitely explore Broadway again in the fall hopefully Left On Tenth with Julianna Margulies and Peter Gallagher, The Roommate starring Patti Lupone and Mia Farrow, A Wonderful World: The Louis Armstrong Story, McNeal (Robert Downey, Jr. Broadway debut), Tammy Faye with original music by Elton John, Death Becomes Her (Michelle Williams, Megan Hilty), Gypsy starring Audra McDonald and Sunset Boulevard revival with Pussycat Dolls Nicole Scherzinger who just won the Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical in London (I saw the show in 1994 on Broadway with Glenn Close and was bored to tears) are on my theater bucket list.
There are some fabulous classic shows on right now…Six, Hamilton, & Juliet, Hadestown, Lion King, MJ The Musical, Book of Mormon and if you are up for a fun, zany, campy musical see, Titanique which recharts the course of the Titanic accompanied by the iconic Celine Dion musical catalog.
You win some and you lose some. Spring 2024 was, unfortunately, filled with losers.
I am still obsessed with the theater. No one can Rain on my Parade.
Onward to the fall debuts.
I am looking forward to, once again, being Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered.
