Beverly Hills Goes Greek…

Avra opened last year in Beverly Hills.

Located in the long-shuttered Hakkasan location, the owners spent seven months transforming the 11,000 square foot space into a Mediterranean mecca.

Previously, I reviewed the NY Avra on 60th and Madison.

Avra features modern Greek cuisine along with the classics.

It is one of my favorite lunch haunts on both coasts.

The fixed price lunch special is the best deal in either city and the food never disappoints.

Avra Dining Room

I made a reservation for David’s birthday and the new restaurant is tastefully decorated in shades of beige.

The fresh fish and vegetable displays are lucious and colorful.

Avra Beverly Hills Patio

The Bev Hills restaurant is open and airy with a sizable outdoor patio area that must have taken months of negotiation with the city of Beverly Hills since a large slice of the sidewalk is taken up by the restaurant.

Our server, Mark, who previously worked at Nobu, was delightful and well versed regarding his recommendations.

We both opted for the lunch special menu which offers a three course selection ($29.50).

Cremant

I kicked the celebration off with a lovely Cremant ($18).

The server brought over crispy crackers and a tasty hummus dip along with luscious olives and seasoned radish.

Greek Salad

I selected the Greek Salad to start which was outstanding, the tomatoes ripe and delicious, onions sweet, crispy cucumbers and feta rich and delectable.

Tuna Tartar

David chose the Hawaiian Big Eye Tuna Tartar which was served with homemade chips.

Grilled Salmon

For my main I had the Salmon which was fabulous served on a bed of white beans.

Royal Dorado

David ordered the fish of the day which was a wonderful Royal Dorado.

Dessert was either Baklava, fresh fruit or a Chocolate Cheesecake and they brought over a pu pu platter of desserts in honor of David’s birthday.

Avra was packed with Ladies Who Lunch.

The vibe was mellow in the expansive 240-seater even for Beverly Hills.

I think the customers were pleased…it was a bit difficult to tell since botox appeared to be the cocktail of the day.
